Since its formation in July 2011 by soprano Jeong Ae-Ree, New Opera Singapore has been changing the face of opera in Singapore. Hailed by many as signaling a bright future for the art form here, the company’s spirit of adventure and contemporary attitude have made it a vital component in Singapore’s music scene. Through it’s productions, from the well-known (My Days with Dido and My Nights with Aeneas, Die Fledermaus), to the original (Opera Comique series, A Knife in the Dark), New Opera Singapore has provided a platform for local performers young and old to grow in talent and experience, as well as introducing local audiences to the world of opera.

New Opera Singapore also actively seeks to educate the wider public through a variety of community outreach programmes at schools, libraries, and even business centres. Through our bite-sized opera programme Who’s Afraid of Opera?, local communities, many of whom have never before stepped into an opera house, are treated to arias and art songs, and will even sing along in Italian to 'O Sole Mio'.

New Opera Singapore’s efforts are slowly but surely demystifying opera as an old-fashioned and elitist art form. With local flair and world-class talent, New Opera Singapore is “Always Something New”."
