The Aliwal Urban Art Festival is an annual celebration of Singapore Art Week. Get down to a carefully-curated selection of art inspired by international street culture – from graffiti to graphic art, rock to afro-beat, skateboarding to breakdancing.

Organised by Aliwal Arts Centre, the festival's location in Kampong Glam is apt - the district is named one of Singapore's coolest neighbourhoods by international press, with its rich history and culture, mixed with on-trend shops and cafes. Come as you are and join the fun!

The sixth edition of Aliwal Urban Art Festival is here! Celebrate urban art and youth subcultures that live on the edge of modern society. From graffiti to graphic art, skateboarding to dance battles, and great music to get you moving, come as you are and soak in the good vibes!

DANCE
Kids Dance Audition

Who are the new Hip-Hop kids on the block? Get to observe the audition process of the next generation of young street dancers aiming to take their skills to the next level! Selected participants will join the Recognize Studios Kids crews, Rocketeer & Revolt, to be trained for performances and competitions under world-class dance teachers & choreographers.

Radikal Forze Jam 2019 SG Qualifiers

Witness some of the best street dancers in the country dance-battle it out in a knockout competition format, as teams vie to represent Singapore in the main event happening this March 2019.

Nine crews, past and present, all friends, one community. Going back to the roots of street dance, come and see the real deal of Singapore’s flourishing Hip-Hop scene, including special showcases by crews currently on hiatus, and a mini-party to get everyone moving to the beat of DJ G.Mak!

Featuring KO-08, AC, Raw Massive, Foreign Bodies, Strictly Dance Zone, Skimy, Kairos, Sakura Boyz Club and Team Distinct.

URBAN ART
Live Graffiti painting & Installation

As part of the Aliwal Arts Centre community of tenants, RSCLS have always spearheaded the urban art segment for AUAF since its inauguration. This edition, besides live graffiti painting in multiple areas of Aliwal Street, RSCLS will also be supporting the ART IN THE STREETS Pop-Up Exhibition happening at BlackBook Studios at the Sultan Gate Arts Village. Keep a special lookout for the Music Stage backdrop specially created by RSCLS!

SADAR (BLAZEWORKS Studio) & SONG (RSCLS) team up and take over the Sultan Gate Art Village for the weekend, with an extensive display of works by 26 street artists.

D’Tour of Kampong Glam

See Kampong Glam with different eyes, in an alternative walking tour that tells a de-facto parallel history of this rich and vibrant neighbourhood through its murals and street art. 

A Sign of the Times

In response to social norms and the times we live in, 30 - 40 creatives from the Singapore urban creative community re-interpret instructional metal signs commonly seen on the streets.

A Sign of the Times is the second volume of Kult’s From the Streets of Singapore series, and celebrates the spirit of rebellion quintessential to street culture.

The exhibition debuts on Aliwal Street on 19 Jan and continues till 4 Feb at the Aliwal Courtyard.

MUSIC
LIVE MUSIC SHOWCASE
Curated by SGMuso, featuring Izat Ibrahim, hauste, Sun Eater, Froya and Astronauts

Featuring independent bands across a variety of genres, move your body to the smooth R&B tunes of Izat Ibrahim, indulge in the uplifting math-rock of hauste, or let loose to the hard-hitting music of Sun Eater. Funk and R&B group Astronauts will cap off your night with their groovy sounds. This year’s lineup will also feature a Malaysian act, Froya, whose style of music blends folk pop, electronica and other whimsical influences.

CLOSING PARTY

Writers' Block is a newly-formed rap collective based in Singapore consisting of members of various backgrounds. Sharing the same passion and interest in music,the group was founded to provide a medium to express each artist's creativity without any restriction. 

Hybreed Society is a Hip-Hop music collective based in Singapore with varying styles with roots in music, entertainment, fashion and much more.

Solid Gold Production is a monthly Hip-Hop party, helmed by iconic turntablist DJ KoFlow and the Radikal Forze Crew. Since its inception In Zouk in 2014, the Solid Gold Production team consistently plans one of the best hip-hop dance parties in Singapore. From Funk to Disco, from Reggae to Dancehall, from Boom Bap to Trap, the sounds you can expect during the night come from an array of various genres past to present that have shaped Hip-Hop.

WORKSHOPS
Silversmithing Workshop
By RSCLS x SWEDA (Yogyakarta)

SWEDA ID from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, designs custom rings and jewellery with an international customer base, creating custom signet rings for Us VS Them, MachineGunKelly, Tribal Street wear and more. In this workshop, participants will be guided through the traditional process of silver pendant making, an artisan skill on the edge of losing its place in Singapore. RSCLS will design special edition pendants for these workshops as part of their collaboration with SWEDA. Materials will be provided for the workshop.

Skate-Mini Clinic

A "mini" is an entire skateboarding discipline in its own right. This is a showcase and sharing experience of the endless possibilities on a mini by Vans riders anda skate clinic for first timers.

Drone in the Arts (Tryouts)

Skateboarders bring their creative A-game to navigate a street arena made up of five skate elements and three different levels of difficulties, in a bid to outperform their competitors. Expect high-octane performance and jaw-dropping tricks as SkateSG seeks out the top lads that dominate this discipline.
